OOR STORY

Oor Story

Our passion stems from a love for Scottish scran.

I'm Gregg and I'm from Glasgow.  I set this up with my partner, Maddi during the last wave of lockdowns whilst working as an economist.  It started with deliveries of hot haggis, neeps & tatties cooked in our flat to friends and our small Instagram following.

Once the food markets reopened, we bought a gazebo and some cooking kit and started trading at Westgate St Market without much clue.

Eventually we found our feet and began to build a following and also make some cooking pals; collaborating with the likes of Gordos Pizza, Hot 4 U, the Bagel Guys, the Cheese Bar, Dalston Wine Club, Naked Soup, Kold Sauce, Two Hot Asians and Bangers.  In the midst of this, we found our second home at the brilliant LSS Market, Coal Drops Yard, Kings X and traded there intermittently from Winter 2021 to Summer 2022.

Two things then followed - (1) we were invited to take on a residency at Exale Brewery in Walthamstow, a Scottish owned  brewery where we would be able to give the business a proper go; and (2) we were scouted by the Scottish Government to cater for them at Scotland House in Blackfriars, London.

I quit my full-time job and took the residency at Exale where we were based from September 2022 to March 2023.  This allowed us to develop new menus, see customers on a regular basis and even have The Times and Time Out come in and feature us:

At the same time, our catering gigs grew with the Scottish Government including events with the Mexican Embassy [imagine highland rump steak tacos] and Visit Scotland as well as MSPs. Auld Hag continues to cook at Scotland House on a weekly basis alongside catering for other businesses.

That gets us to Auld Hag today and the opening of the Shoap.  In February 2024, we opened the Shoap in Angel - the home of Scottish food and drink in London.

A place for you to get a pint of Tennents with a handmade scotch pie or a coffee and an empire biscuit.  Pick up some smoked fish and cheese, a bottle of Scottish cider and head up the road.  Come on down to see us!
